The Chayers

Mid-Training Report

Well I'm in my second day of training, but that isn't nearly as interesting as the fact that this morning it SNOWED!!! It's been like seven or so years since I've seen snowfall. I dunno, I lost count. Anyway, it's all been melting on contact, except for a few minutes this morning when a nice layer developed on the roof across from our balcony, but I didn't get a picture. Maybe tomorrow. The snow has been light and fairly consistent all day. Very nice. So now, pictures!

Tram in Detroit
I think I forgot to include this in the last batch. Sorry.

The following few pictures are of the Imperial Palace. The original was built in 794, but was reconstructed many times after burning down. The current one was built in 1855 (long after the capital had moved to Tokyo), and isn't even in the same place as the original. Knowing this, I wasn't impressed. I went on a Saturday. Tours are only available during the week for some dumb reason, but I didn't want one anyway if it's not the original. I'll go see Himeji Castle (about an hour east of here) sometime, which is Japan's oldest original castle, dating from the 1300's.

Exactly why it seemed kinda lame, yet still interesting.

Swastika on Buddhist Shrine
I saw this on Karawamachi-dori, and I've noticed others since. The swastika is a reverent symbol in Buddhism.

Fire!
You too can swing both ways if you drink his fiery beverage!
