Mostly Stuff in Kyoto (was Osaka and More 2)
There were originally two parts to this piece, but the first part,
containing most of the pictures in Osaka, were lost. It's very frustrating
and I won't bother with the details. I'll be back in Osaka a few times
this year to see baseball games, so it's really not that big a deal.
Anyway, here's what I've got, which is mostly stuff in Kyoto. |
Cabs at Yamashina
Many drivers in Japan sleep or rest in their cars with their engines
running. There are twice as many cabs in this lot at peak traffic times,
all with their engines running. It's funny that Kyoto hosted a big
international environmental conference a few years ago. This is in front
of Yamashina Station. |
Cigarettes, Beer and Soda Outside my Branch
To the left of these vending machines is a kiosk where you can buy the
exact same products (plus newspapers) for the exact same price, but from a
real person. Very redundant. Vending machines are everywhere in Japan, but
I have only seen one public water fountain, and that was at the Kyoto
University Gymnasium. It's a conspiracy to make me spend all my
hard-earned (okay, well, earned) yen on sodas and bottled water. So I take
a large plastic bottle with tap water to work. I'm cheap that way.

Dancing Drunks
These young people were drunk and dancing in a circle by the river in
Sanjo. One guy was really trashed, and he kept falling over while his
friend took pictures. It was pretty funny. Unfortunately this picture
didn't come out so well. |
Didn't Know This was Here
Notre Dame in Japan. How about that? |
Ding Ding!
Railroad crossings in Japan make the most obnoxious sound in the world. In
fact, everything in Japan makes the most obnoxious sound in the world.
Even with my phone on full volume, I often have trouble understanding
people unless I'm inside my apartment. There is endless noise pollution
here. Japan is truly an assault on a Westerner's senses. |
Heart-in
This is a convenience store at Yamashina Station. The men on the left are
all reading hentai (pornographic comics), and the clerks don't care. Most
of them will probably not buy the books, because they'd be in trouble if
they took them home. |
My Nova Branch
The blue and yellow sign is where I work. This is also at Yamashina
Station. |
Needle Thing in Front of Yamashina Station

Placenta
I saw this at a store and I had to buy it, even though it cost 980 yen
because I didn't have my camera on me at the time. It's some sort of
cooking sauce, and it smells nasty. I don't intend to use it. |
Socks
Someone didn't learn about possessives in English class.... |
Sugar Butter Chips
The texture and the flavor don't go together. Very weird. |
Sumo!
This is in the Namba area of Osaka. |
This is for Heather
She lives in Seattle and is the biggest coffee fanatic on the planet. |
What the Hell
Saw this in Osaka. |
