Osaka Castle, Kyoto at Night and Toji - Page 1 |

All right folks, I'm back. I'm hoping not to type so much this time, so
here's the first picture:

Pee PeeYou know how I love to start these things off with a touch of class....
This is from a bathroom slipper at my favorite place to eat in Japan, Jyu
Jyu Karubi. They're a yakiniku restaurant. Yakiniku is Japanese style
bar-b-que (originally from Korea), where you have a grill in the middle of
the table over which you cook meat and vegetables. I'll get some pics of
the place sometime.

Dream CarThis is the second Ferrari I've seen in Japan, and therefore the second one
I've seen in my life. This was on Kawaramachi between Shijo and Gojo (if
you don't know Kyoto and you care where that is, get a map), and the first
one was in Yamashina near my old apartment. Please gimme....

Anti-Crime Parade on 9-11On September 11th, 2003, I went to the new Wendy's in downtown to eat lunch.
I was riding my bicycle on the sidewalk, which you're not supposed to do
there since it’s so crowded. There were tons of cops around, and I couldn't
figure out why until I remembered what the date was. Maybe it was also
because of the Anti-Crime Parade going on as well. Anyway, the cops told me
not to ride my bike on the sidewalk a couple times, but I pretended not to
understand and kept riding. There are advantages to being an obvious
foreigner....

Osaka Castle 1"Osaka-jo is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of the original castle, which
was completed in 1583 as a display of power on the part of Toyotomi
Hideyoshi. Refurbished in 1997, today's castle has a decidedly modern look.
The interior of the castle houses a museum of Toyotomi Hideyoshi
memorabilia as well as displays relating the history of the castle" (Lonely
Planet). I went to Osaka one day with Mizue to accompany her to a job
interview in Yodoyabashi. She was looking for jobs teaching English to
children. She didn't get that job, but she's just recently gotten another.
Anyway, while she was busy with that, I walked over to the castle. I'll go
inside to check out the museum some other time.
